Happy New Year! Congratulations to everyone for surviving the annual onslaught of aggressive holiday commercialization, awkward family interactions, and some weird holiday beverage made out of eggs and whatever “nog” is. January is a time for a new beginnings, lots of snow, and hanging out indoors with some adorable floofy animals.

A new year, a new Snout Selector. For those of you that don’t know me yet, Hi! I’m Chuckles. You’ve probably seen a few pictures around here of my dog !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and my cats !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . As part of my goal to spend more of 2018 focusing on positive things, I have answered the call to become a Snout Selector. The vetting process was very arduous. Seriously, I was stuck waiting at the vet’s office for hours before realizing that I’m a human and I should go to the human doctor if I need medical assistance. But enough of my terrible attempts at humor. On to the floofs!

In case you’re new (in which case, welcome!): Favorites are chosen by one of the Snout Selectors (KrabbyPaddy, mrsfinch, facw, Xyl0c41n3 or Chuckles), entirely on our own whimsy. WHIMSY. However, in the interest of solidarity, we try to select one dog picture and one cat picture (minimum!) each week. Other pets will also, of course, be considered. We love all your rats, bunnies, ferrets and other furry, feathery & finny pals. WE WILL NEVER DISCRIMINATE AGAINST CUTE. As always, we’re happy to dismiss any pictures if you decide you want them taken down at some point.

If you don’t have a pet of your own to feature this week, I highly recommend featuring and linking to any cuties who are available for adoption and looking for a home on any shelter or rescue site. I know I’m not the only one lurking on Petfinder!

In that sharing spirit, if you don’t have a pet but want to participate, drop off your best Internet find of an animal gif or meme or tweet in the comments. The more animal lovers, the merrier:) Speaking of sharing, feel free to share these posts anywhere in the Kinja-verse, because it has been scientifically documented that looking at pictures of cute animals reduces stress.

I would love it if I had a pet who could sit on my lap while I read. This is what happens every afternoon when I settle in for reading hour.

This is Hadley (left), a 6 mo. old goldendoodle, and Eirie (right), a 3 year old Icelandic Sheepdog, in her natural environment: a snow fort I am building for my kids. They are good buddies and LOVE to wrestle in the snow.

We got Cosmo from a shelter but we believe he is a German shepherd mix. I don’t know what he is mixed with, but he is on the slightly smaller size for a male GS, and his ears don’t stand up.

Hahah thanks! That tree snap was so lucky with his tongue out! He has his own Instagram lol. My friend at work was like you need to do this. I had no idea people made pet instagrams (an old here) so he helped me make it. It’s QuiQue_gram lol. (I’ve had a few cats and his face is hands down the most expressive and hilarious.) :)

Heh. I love it! My cat is super expressive, too, but he also has a very marked disdain for cameras. Anytime I try to take his picture he immediately glowers. So all my photos of him are either when he’s asleep, or of resting bitch face. Heh.

I have never followed tennis. When I was growing up only rich, snooty people played. Or climbers. I love the Williams sisters though because they are strong, beautiful, athletes who have achieved so much.

But I hear what you’re saying about support! I live in a southern college town with a powerhouse basketball team. Most of the rest of the county hates us. They bitch about our overpaid coach, and how unfair it is that we get the best recruits. But that didn’t come out of nowhere. What people don’t realize is that our city supports that team winning or losing. We fill the stands at home and away in spite of the wins and losses. I know one man who has only missed 1 home game in the last 20 years, because he was in the hospital. We show up at the airport and cheer them when they return home from losing tournaments! The recruits started coming because they knew they’d be supported and nurtured here. And we built a program to match their talents. We aren’t just asking them to entertain us. We want to give them as much as they give us. And honestly, I get misty when I see these young, some not so young anymore, men on the pro courts. Because I feel like I have a relationship with them. I watched them grow and mature into the players they are today. I’m proud of them dammit!

I agree with you. Show up even when they aren’t the Williams sisters. Because they are still need your support. And if and when another superstar emerges you can feel that sense of relationship and pride.

Rabbit 1, greyhound 0 and vet specialist +$500 and climbing! Poor Guy pulled up short chasing a rabbit on Wednesday morning. The limping and swelling was worse on day 2 so off to the canine orthopedist. Diagnosis is a broken first toe. He’s splinted and recovering from sedation, X-rays, 2 hours round trip in the car and the stress of having this huge thing on his leg. He was panting, shaking and shockish on arriving home but is now sleeping heavily and blissfully farting as usual.

Our first lamb of the year was born Wednesday, she doesn’t have a name yet, but she sure is cute!

We also acquired a new cat! We sort of feel a little bad about it because Elvis has been suffering chronic sinus infections, and we know she’s not likely to be with us for a whole lot longer...

She may be old, and getting sicker, but she sure is floofy...

So is the new guy; meet Jasper, AKA: Jasperger. He came from the local humane society and is a total goof ball. Only about 2-years old and found as a stray! Who would loose this face?
